The Roses Marina hosted the official ceremony for the presentation of the 2025 Blue Flags last Friday, June 6, awarding Catalan beaches and ports recognized this year for their environmental quality, safety, and excellence in services. The Roses port itself was among the awardees and raised its flag during the event.
The Minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque i Sureda, participated last Friday, June 6, in Roses, in the official ceremony of awarding the 2025 Blue Flags to Catalan beaches and ports recognized this year for their environmental quality, safety and excellence in services. Accompanied by the mayor, Josep Maria Martínez, and the president of the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), José Palacios, the Minister highlighted the importance of this recognition for the Catalan coastline and for the collective commitment to sustainability.
The Blue Flags are an international distinction awarded annually by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), with the collaboration of ADEAC in Spain. This award particularly values water quality, environmental management, safety, services and environmental education.
101 beaches and 23 ports
Catalonia has been distinguished this 2025 with 101 award-winning beaches, six more than last year, and 23 marinas, maintaining the figure obtained in 2024. This makes the country the community with the most Blue Flags in the entire State. This recognition is part of the objectives of the Ports Plan of Catalonia, Horizon 2030, which promotes sustainability, safety and quality of port services, reaffirming the Government's commitment to the protection and promotion of the Catalan coastline.
During her speech, Minister Paneque highlighted the significance of the award, explaining that " the quality of the environment and the landscape symbolizes the meaning of the Blue Flags, an award that is granted internationally and that values environmental management, safety, the optimal provision of services or the quality of landscapes ."
Paneque gave special recognition to the port of Roses, highlighting it as an “ example of coexistence between economic development and respect for the landscape ”, and wanted to thank the work of all the people who have made this collective success possible, stating that “ the Blue Flags are an award for honest and excellent work, a reference for our landscape on the international stage and a sign of the respect that we must demand of ourselves as a people and as a country .”
