The Festa Major magazine reviews 30 years of Optimist and recovers the origins of family theater in Roses
This year's Roses Festival Magazine offers a monograph on the 30-year history of Optimist, an organization founded in 1996 and which, over the course of three decades, has brought a stable program of high-level children's and family theater to Roses. It will be available to the public, free of charge, from tomorrow, Thursday, July 23, at the Town Hall, the Tourist Office and the Municipal Library.
The magazine of the Roses Festival has become over the years a document of collective memory , which reviews the history of the town from antiquity to its most recent history. In the issue that has just been published, the magazine takes a journey through the origins of family theatre in Roses, and highlights the work that the Optimist association has developed throughout its thirty years of existence to bring the performing arts closer to children and their families.
This year's issue also recovers the antecedents of the entity: the experience of the Rialles Roses group , active between 1986 and 1988, precursor to Optimist. The article, prepared by the Roses Municipal Archive based on documentation preserved in its collections, explains how a group of volunteers promoted a program of theater, cinema and children's shows in Catalan, becoming a cultural reference for an entire generation.
The publication dedicates the main report to the trajectory of Optimist, an entity born in 1996 as a result of the initiative of a group of families who wanted the children of Roses to be able to enjoy a stable program of family theater without having to travel to other municipalities. Over three decades, the association has programmed more than 250 shows, has contributed to forming new audiences , has promoted initiatives such as the Fair of Entities and the children's theater classroom and, recently, has organized the first Family Theater Fair coinciding with its thirtieth anniversary.
The mayor of Roses, Sílvia Ripoll, highlights in the institutional greeting that culture is a fundamental tool for growth and that entities like Optimist have contributed for thirty years to educating, inspiring and making generations of boys and girls in the municipality dream, which is why the magazine pays tribute to them in this edition.
As usual, the magazine also includes the entire program of the Festa Major , which will be held from August 7 to 16, as well as the Barraques program , the rules and route of the correfoc and all the practical information about the different events.
The magazine has a print run of 2,500 copies and is distributed free of charge to shops and establishments in Roses. From tomorrow, Thursday 23 July, it can be picked up at the Town Hall, the Tourist Office and the Jaume Vicens Vives Municipal Library.
