The 2026 Spanish Windsurfing Cup draws to a close at GEN Roses following a weekend of extreme weather conditions.

The club managed to complete the championship by finishing both races on Saturday before the arrival of the severe storm that has hit the Mediterranean.

This weekend, GEN Roses hosted the Spanish Sailing Skiff Cup, one of the most important and special events on the national sailing calendar, marked by truly exceptional weather conditions caused by the mini-hurricane / DANA that swept across the Mediterranean basin.

The key to the organisers’ success was their efficiency on Saturday, when the race committee made the most of the weather window to successfully complete the two scheduled races, just before the official weather warnings for severe storms were issued.
Faced with the forecast of torrential rain, the organisers moved the beach storage area to prevent the sailboats from being swept out to sea. They were moved into the club’s concrete storage areas.
On Sunday, as the rain and wind intensified and civil protection warnings were issued, the safety of the sailors and the boats became the absolute priority, making it impossible to hold any further races on the water. As the alerts were extended – originally due to last until 2.00 pm – it became impossible to continue with the championship. The organisers proceeded to hold the trophy-presentation ceremony to bring this edition of the Spanish Cup to a close.

We at GEN Roses would like to express our deepest gratitude for the patience, understanding and outstanding standard of performance demonstrated by all the sailors in the Patín a Vela class who travelled from various parts of the coastline. A very special mention also goes to the entire organising team, officials, judges and volunteers for their swift response and management during such a challenging weekend.
All the final results and the regatta’s honours list are available on the event’s official website.
Congratulations to the new Spanish champions and thank you to everyone for making this an unforgettable edition!
