The Ciutadella takes center stage at night with the completion of the perimeter lighting project
The project to improve and expand the lighting of the defensive perimeter and interior structures of the Ciutadella de Roses has reached its conclusion. The work, which had a budget of €370,681, has allowed more than 2,000 linear meters of facade walls to be illuminated, giving prominence and uniqueness to one of the town's most emblematic monuments.
From now on, the Ciutadella will have, also during the night, a view that allows you to appreciate the extraordinary magnitude of the monument, make it more pleasant for locals and visitors to walk around its exterior and give more prominence at night to this identity area of Roses, which welcomes you to the center of the town. Until now, the exterior perimeter was partially illuminated along 865 linear meters (mainly on the facade and portal of Mar and on the bastions). The new project has expanded and adapted this lighting, both in terms of the defensive perimeter of the enclosure and the interior structures.
Thus, the counterguards and the revetments of the exterior perimeter, with heights of between 5 and 7 meters, have been illuminated with a total and uniform bath, paying special attention to the Balcony of the Queen of the revetment of Sant Antoni de Pàdua and highlighting the vertical edges of each section of the facade to enhance the geometry of the elements. As for the perimeter and interior structures, the walls and bastions are also illuminated with a uniform bath, with the same tone of color, although with a contrast of intensity to differentiate them from the exterior perimeter and highlight the depth between the two spaces.
The facade and the Portal de Mar have received special attention, given their function as a letter of introduction to the town and as the first, already iconic, view that is received when arriving at the center of Roses. For their part, the bronze replica of a master builder located right in front of this portal has also been illuminated specifically to enhance it at night. Finally, the upper part of the church of Santa Maria has been illuminated, in order to make it visible from outside the walled enclosure.
In total, the expansion has involved the lighting of 2,035 linear metres of walls, with the installation of 164 projectors and a total installed power of 12,712 kW. The project has used elements that are integrated as much as possible with the environment to guarantee the minimum visual impact, as well as compliance with current regulations on the protection of the night environment and energy efficiency.
Regarding the electrical supply, the installation is powered through three electrical panels, two of them already existing and a third newly created. For this reason, the new lighting of the sea facades and the Ronda Miquel Oliva i Prat will come into operation immediately, while the facades of the market, the Ronda Circumval·lació and the Trencada stream will be activated in the coming days, once the electricity company has formalised and legalised the new necessary supply point.
