Phase 2 of the drought emergency limits water use to 180 liters per inhabitant per day

News | 12/03/2024

Roses, along with 11 other municipalities in Alt Empordà that depend on the Darnius Boadella reservoir, move from drought emergency scenario 1 to phase 2. The measure comes into force today, Tuesday March 12, after being published in the Official Journal of the Generalitat of Catalonia (DOGC).

The change occurs because the Darnius Boadella reservoir is at just over 11% of its capacity, with less than 7 hm³.

180 liters of water per person per day

It is established that the total volumes of water for the supply of the population cannot exceed 180 liters per inhabitant per day, including economic and commercial activities.

Irrigation of green areas

It is prohibited in both public and private areas, except for the survival of trees and public botanical gardens, if it is done with regenerated or groundwater.

Vehicle cleaning

The cleaning of any type of vehicle is prohibited unless the cleaning is carried out in commercial vehicle cleaning establishments with water recirculation

Cleaning of streets and urban furniture

- The cleaning with potable water of streets, sewers, pavements, facades and the like, whether public or private, is prohibited unless the cleaning is the result of an accident or a fire, or there is a health risk or a risk to road safety

- The cleaning of shop windows and windows with a bucket and sponge is allowed

Filling pools

The total or partial filling of all types of swimming pools is prohibited.

- Only partial refilling is allowed in indoor swimming pools registered in the Generalitat census and outdoor swimming pools used throughout the year for federated sports practice, with conditions

- Full filling or partial refilling is allowed:

  • Therapeutic swimming pools

  • Seawater swimming pools: which are filled and emptied without connection to the sanitation networks (since they can damage the operation of the sewage treatment plants).

Ornamental fountains

The total or partial filling of ornamental fountains, artificial lakes and other elements of aesthetic use of water is prohibited, except for wildlife refuges in danger of extinction or intended for the recovery of native species, which can be filled with the minimum amount of essential water from regeneration or the groundwater.
