Roses celebrates Sant Joan and Sant Pere with festivities full of tradition by the sea
Once again, Roses will celebrate the eve of Sant Joan on June 23 with a party that will feature the arrival of the Canigó Flame on the promenade, a parade of giants to the breakwater, a bonfire, fireworks and dancing. On the 27th and 28th, the town will celebrate the festival of Sant Pere, patron saint of fishermen, with a popular dance, the traditional tirad de l'artó, fish stew and habaneras.
Fireworks, parade, bonfire and dancing on the eve of Sant Joan de Roses
The Sant Joan festival will be held in Roses from 10pm, when the Canigó Flame will arrive at the Passeig Marítim (Monument to the Fisherman) and the manifesto will be read. The parade will then begin with the Colla Gegantera, which will walk along the promenade to the Punta beach breakwater, where the Sant Joan bonfire will be lit.
At 11 p.m. Roses will once again light up the bay with the traditional Castell de Focs, which will give way to the eve dance that will take place on the promenade, performed by the Banda del Drac group.

Montecarlo will be in charge of starting the celebration of the Sant Pere festival in Roses, with the dance that it will offer on Friday, June 27 (10 p.m.), in Plaça Sant Pere.
The next day, starting at 9:30 a.m., the traditional Tirada de l'artó (casting of the net), a type of beach trawling fishing, currently out of use, but which was widely used by the fishermen of Roses in the past, will take place on Rastrell beach. It consists of throwing the net from the beach to, when it is picked up, obtain the fish catch. Traditionally, it was a subsistence and non-commercial fishery, since few catches were obtained and were divided among the fishermen.
For years, the fishermen of Roses have offered this demonstration in a festive atmosphere on the occasion of Saint Peter's Day, thus remembering a way of life and paying tribute to the people of the sea who subsisted thanks to these very hard tasks.
Once the activity is over, the Confraria de Pescadors de Roses will offer a tasting of fish suquet, accompanied by a habanera song by La Petita Havana. Tickets for the suquet can be purchased the same morning for €5, in front of Plaça Sant Pere.
