Around 300 cyclists from 26 countries around the world set off from the Port of Roses with the challenge of reaching, after crossing the Pyrenees, next Saturday, 14 June.

On Sunday 8th, the Port of Roses once again became the epicentre of adventure cycling with the start of the 15th edition of the Transpyr Coast to Coast.

This iconic multi-stage cycling race, considered one of the ten best in the world, offers an epic challenge: crossing the Pyrenees from sea to sea in seven days, from the Mediterranean to the Cantabrian Sea, in any of its three categories: mountain biking, road cycling and e-bikes.

The first stage, starting in Roses and finishing in Camprodon, covers 105 km and has an elevation gain of 1,800 metres. This initial section serves as an introduction to the challenge, with a route that crosses the Girona Pyrenees, in the regions of Alt Empordà and La Garrotxa, offering varied landscapes and a gradual transition to the mountainous terrain of the Pyrenees. After Camprodon, cyclists will complete the following stages until they reach La Seu d'Urgell, El Pont de Suert, Aínsa, Jaca, Burguete-Auritz and, finally, on Saturday 14 June, Irún.

With a route of over 900 km and a cumulative elevation gain of over 17,000 metres, the Transpyr Coast to Coast attracts around 300 cyclists from all over the world every year. Participants can choose between different categories: Grand Raid MTB, Backroads for road bikes, and E-Transpyr for electric bikes, thus adapting to different levels and preferences.

Roses, as the starting point, reaffirms its commitment to this sporting adventure.

According to Oriol Sallent, a member of the organisation: ‘Roses has a characteristic that makes it very suitable for this event, because it is in Roses where the Pyrenees begin and it is next to the sea, so it makes a lot of sense for the Transpyr Coast to Coast’.

The event stands out not only for its sporting demands, but also for its ability to promote tourism and the international profile of the region.
The Transpyr Coast to Coast 2025 is an unforgettable experience for participants and a highlight for the town of Roses. Thanks to the combination of spectacular landscapes, physical challenges and careful organisation, this cycling tour continues to establish itself as an essential event on the international sporting calendar.

Welcome to the Transpyr cyclists at the Citadel of Roses

On Saturday 7th in the afternoon, a welcome ceremony was held at the church of the Citadel of Roses for the cyclists participating in Transpyr 2025, where Oriol Sallent, a member of the organisation, introduced the local authorities: Mayor Josep Maria Martínez, the Councillor for Sports and the Deputy of the Provincial Council of Girona and Second Vice-President of the Girona Costa Brava Tourist Board, Joan Plana. Sallent pointed out that ‘they may not be relevant to you, but they are very important to us, because they are the ones who ultimately make events like Transpyr a reality’.

The deputy then emphasised that "at the Provincial Council of Girona, we are delighted that an event of the national and international stature of Transpyr starts from our home, the Costa Brava, and specifically from Roses, because Transpyr represents two things for us: a love of sport, and therefore of health, and something very important for us, the great projection of the Roses brand associated with the important values conveyed by Transpyr".

The mayor of Roses, after giving a historical overview, proposed a game to the cyclists to link history, culture and sport, explaining that " we have evidence that there was an abbot in this monastery who was fleeing pirate attacks, and if you commit to being here next year, I will reveal a cultural fact related to the history of Roses and the construction of this monastery, which was built on top of an old church".

The event ended with Francesc Sallent, also a member of the organisation, presenting a small jar filled with salt from the Mediterranean Sea, which will be taken to the Cantabrian Sea as a symbol of the union between these two seas after the seven cycling stages through the Pyrenees.
